Meet Chris Storey

Chris is a decorated law enforcement officer with 22 years of experience in the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office. In 2019, when Chris was promoted to Major, he became the first African American to have held every rank from Correctional Officer to Major. Through his involvement with the National Sheriff’s Association, National Stalking Resource Center, and the Federal Law Enforcement Center, Chris has been able to make an impact at a national level through presentations to officers around the country. A community oriented 31 year resident of Clayton County. Chris Storey is married to Marcia, wife of 31 years, together they have four daughters.

My Journey

Chris Storey started his law enforcement career with the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office in 1999 as a Correctional Officer in the Jail Division. Chris was reassigned to Jail Administration in 2000 after 4 months of employment to the position of Hearing/Grievance Officer.  Chris created a Plea Agreement form and authored the policy for its use.

Chris was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in 2001 and attended the Clayton Regional Police Academy Class 166 receiving the Academic graduate award.

In 2002 Chris became a member of the Special Enforcement Team (SET) and was reassigned to the Field Division Administration assigned to the Youth Education and Safety Section (YESS). Chris was responsible for teaching Project SAVE (Stop Alcohol Violations Early) to eighth grade students throughout the county and became a General Instructor certified by POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training).

In 2005 Chris authored the first Standard Operating Procedures and created all the forms used for the newly formed Stalking Unit.

In 2006 Chris was invited by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as an instructor for their Domestic Violence Instructor Training Program. These export trainings were held all over the United States as well as US Territories.

In 2007 Chris became a member of the State of Georgia’s Coalition Against Domestic Violence Advisory Board.

In 2009 Chris was interviewed for a feature story on Stalking for Oprah magazine.  Chris was selected as a presenter for the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center’s (FLETC) Symposium on Domestic Violence in Washington, DC where over 350 law enforcement officers were in attendance. During the 6th Annual M.L. King Holiday celebration, Chris was selected to present during the human rights forum centered on law enforcement responses to domestic violence.

Chris completed all required Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) courses to receive the Senior Deputy certification.

In 2011 Chris was tasked with the Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 922, he was responsible for recruiting qualified high school students who had an interest in law enforcement. These students were taught the basics of law enforcement and competed in scenarios against other explorer posts.  The Explorer post was featured in Clayton Magazine.

In 2012 Chris served as Co-Chairperson of the Clayton County Domestic Violence Task Force and received the Task Force of the Year award presented by the Georgia Commission on Family Violence.

In 2013 Chris assisted in the development of a Train the Trainer program with a concentration on Historically Black Colleges and Universities in Washington, DC.

In 2014 Chris participated in the filming of a training DVD in Washington, DC for the National Stalking Resource Center entitled Recognizing and Responding to Stalking. He served as a Law Enforcement Officer subject matter expert grant reviewer.

Chris completed all levels of Supervisions I, II, and III as well as Management I, II, and III at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center and in 2018 attended SWAT Commanders school.
